DSC 9856

The Reverend David F. Peters

David Peters has been serving the Roxbury Congregational Church as its' Minister since November 22, 1986.

A native of Wallingford, Connecticut, Mr. Peters received his B.S. from Central Connecticut State College and an MDiv. (Masters of Divinity) degree from the Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, Massachusetts. Prior to being called to his present position, David had served at churches in Danbury, CT, Waltham, MA, and Glastonbury, CT.

David was named as one of the "Top 50 Most Influential People in Litchfield County" by Litchfield Magazine. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ct Conference of the United Church of Christ, as a member of the Board of Directors for the United Church Board for World Ministries and as a staff member at the Silver Lake Conference Center. He is active in the community, serving on a number of boards and committees including the Roxbury Sr. Housing Board, as a CT-certified Emergency Medical Technician, serving as a crew member with Roxbury Ambulance, and on the regional substance abuse prevention council.  David was also one of the Co-chairs of the Now, For the Future! capital campaign for Silver Lake Conference Center, the denomination's camp, and conference center. He counts Silver Lake in Sharon, CT, as an important place on his spiritual journey toward ordination. It is also where he met his wife, Susan! He has also been listed in Who's Who in American Religion.

He is married to Susan Zappulla-Peters, a pastry chef and native of Torrington, and they have two children, Kyla,  a graduate of Quinnipiac University with a degree in health sciences, living in CA, and Kirby, who has a degree in Agriculture from Cornell and now works in that field in Austin, TX. David's interests include railroads, Apple computers, listening to music including diverse artists such as U2, Rush, Radiohead, and James Taylor, and being a handyman. He loves a challenge to fix something around the house!

On his days off during the tourist season, David can be found working as a train conductor on the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat in Essex, CT or volunteering at our Silver Lake Conference Center doing light maintenance or other tasks.

*Please note that our pastor, like all clergy in Connecticut, is mandated by law to report suspicion of "abuse, neglect, exploitation or abandonment" of people other below age 18 or above age 60 to the appropriate protective services agency of the state (CT General Statutes, Sec., 17b-450-452 etc.)
