Church Membership

Roxbury Congregational Church welcomes anyone to become a member who is ready to commit their loyalty to Jesus Christ as Savior and who will accept the joys and responsibilities of being a follower of Jesus in this church, this family of the faith. As a person on the journey of faith, you come to membership by your own personal statement of faith, by transfer from another church or by baptism into the universal church. There is usually a discussion and information class for prospective members before they make their membership vows during worship.

The expectation of Church Members

  • Worship regularly
  • Witness and share God’s love in your life
  • Serve God and neighbor responsibly and faithfully
  • Give your time, talent and money to further the church’s mission, locally and throughout the world.

Membership can happen by:

  1. Transfer of Membership from another Christian church. If so, we will contact that church for you.
  2. Re-affirmation of Faith- someone who was affiliated with a church at one time but is no longer.
  3. Confession of Faith- someone who, for the first time, is joining a church. For an adult, this may include the Sacrament of Baptism.

There are few categories of Church Membership:

  1. Full Church Membership as defined above.
  2. Associate Church Membership – who wish to retain their membership in another church but wish to have a formal relationship with Roxbury Church.
  3. Historical Members – those who previously were Full Members but have not been active nor supported the church financially and  with regular worship attendance. They can not vote in Church meetings nor hold elected office.

While not formally Church Members, our Church Friends of the congregation are valued and welcomed to participate in the life of the congregation. Those in this category are unable to be a church officer nor be a Deacon or Trustee.
